July 9 & 11, 23 & 25, 30
& Aug 1, 6 & 8
Tues & Thurs, 1pm central on Zoom
In this online Zoom art course we will explore various pastel techniques to help you discover your creative passion and unlock your potential.
The goal of this 4-week course is to make some small-ish pastel paintings into a series. I'm going to employ the theme of summer and water. You can also do that or come up with your own theme! How many pieces in the 4 weeks is up to you.
Plus, you'll connect with a supportive community of new friends!
On Tuesdays, (except Day 1 when we do intros and discuss basics) we will dedicate the first half of the class to reviewing and discussing homework posted in the group Facebook page, followed by working on new pieces for the remaining time.
Thursdays will focus on independent work, where you will continue developing your series, with guidance and feedback provided as needed.
The goal is to create a cohesive series of 4 nature-inspired pieces with a summer theme (or if you know me at all - you choose your own theme). At the end of each Thursday session, new homework will be assigned, which should be completed and posted before the following Tuesday for group discussion.
This format ensures a balance of collaborative learning and individual creativity, fostering both technical skills and your unique artistic expression.

Hi! I'm Mary. I’m an artist and art coach with an MFA and 20+ years of teaching experience.
My specialty is helping people who have set aside their childhood dreams for adult realities and want to try making art again to become amazing artists.
Don't take it from me, take it from these artists who have worked with me! I create online communities where people can bring back the part of themselves that they have tamped down and pursue the dreams they forgot they had.
I've curated and juried a number of exhibitions throughout the Midwestern United States, including Women's Works, Art Fair at the Dole, The Sage Gallery, Wausau Festival of Arts, NISRA, and in my studio.
I have an extensive exhibition history throughout the United States. In 2017 I won the international exhibit Women's Works Artistic Merit award.

Here's what Lorraine had to say...
"Mary's classes are not only clear and inspiring art instruction, but a healing journey of self discovery. The classes are so relaxing and supportive I am comfortable sharing even when I am not feeling great about my work.
Mary and the other students are kind and give constructive ideas to follow through, encouraging me to continue and complete the artwork.
She is generous with ideas and answers as many questions we have. I loved the course so much I have signed up for the next 10 week series.
Thank you Mary!"
