About Mary Telfer, MFA
If you’ve ever felt the pull to create — but life, self-doubt, or overwhelm got in the way — you’re in the right place.
I’m Mary Telfer, a multi-media artist, educator, and mentor with a mission to help closet creatives and stuck artists rediscover the joy, freedom, and power of making art. I’ve spent over 20 years teaching (and learning!) about the transformative power of creativity, and I’m here to show you how to unlock that power for yourself.
With an MFA and decades of experience, I founded The Creative Collective (TCC) to be the ultimate creative playground — a space where you can show up exactly as you are, experiment without fear, and build the art you’ve always wanted to create.
Each week inside TCC, I guide members through inspiring art challenges, interactive Zoom classes, and creative activities designed to help you take risks, build confidence, and finally make the art you’ve been dreaming of. No pressure. Just permission.
I believe art isn’t about innate talent — it’s about permission to play, explore, and get messy.
And my job? To help you give yourself that permission, and make the creative magic happen. 💫
Along the way, you’ll also find that my work and life are rooted in compassion — for animals, for the planet, and for YOU. I’m committed to helping you thrive as both an artist and a person.
So, when you’re ready to start (or restart!) your creative journey, I invite you to join us inside TCC, where community, encouragement, and more than a few creative surprises await..
Let’s make some magic together.

Listen to what Melissa has to say in this 2-minute video.
“A safe space to learn, grow, and share artistically with a diverse group, where we respect, support and celebrate each other.” - Melissa
Here's what Lorraine had to say in this one minute video.
"Mary's challenges are not only clear and inspiring, but a healing journey of self-discovery.
The live Zoom sessions are so relaxing and supportive I am comfortable sharing even when I am not feeling great about my work.
Mary and the other artists are kind and give constructive ideas to follow through, encouraging me to continue and complete the artwork.
Thank you Mary!"
