Painting Reflections with Pastel

Picture

"Time and reflection change the sight little by little 'til we come to understand." - Paul Cezanne.

I couldn't help but use a Cezanne quote here about reflection since he was a master at painting them. It's so healthy to get still and reflect on our life every now & then. Reflections in the water help me get into that still way of being… and they can be so beautiful.

With pastel I will discuss and demonstrate how to paint a still reflection or a reflection that shows movement. You can choose to use the reference photo I supply or one of your own! Email me with any questions at all: mary@marytelfer.com.

Unwind, live in the moment, and have fun by painting with pastels. Make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and make art following along with the lesson/photo of the day, work from your own photo, or simply watch and paint later! The camaraderie of this online class offers a unique opportunity to bring your art to a higher level by brainstorming with each other.

“At the deepest level, the creative process and the healing process arise from a single source. When you are an artist, you are a healer; a wordless trust of the same mystery is the foundation of your work and its integrity.”
~ Rachel Naomi Remen, MD

Scientific studies have shown there is a connection between making art and reducing stress in your mind and body. Making art doesn't only make you feel better, it also creates tangible, physical changes in your body and brain.

In the scientific study, The Connection Between Art, Healing, and Public Health, Heather L. Stuckey, DEd and Jeremy Nobel, MD, MPH summarize ”art-based interventions are effective in reducing adverse physiological and psychological outcomes."
