Paint Pastels on
Dark Paper

Picture
This session we're working on dark pastel surfaces with light and medium valued pastels. This is extra challenging because essentially you're doing the opposite of what you normally do. Instead of adding in the shadows, you are carving them out of the white (or lighter value) as you put in the highlights. If you plan to join the class, you can, of course, do your own thing - but if you plan to follow along you'll want to get some dark pastel paper. My recommendations are to the right...

Check out the smiling Zoom faces below and join us for a fun, engaging Tuesday morning making pastel paintings.  The camaraderie of this online class offers a unique opportunity to bring your art to a higher level by brainstorming with each other. And don't forget to notice the African grey parrot who comes to class regularly! That's Little Bit. He comments, even when it's not critique time.

Paint Pastels on
Dark Paper

4-week Zoom class October 3, 10, 17, & 24,  2023
Tuesday mornings from 10AM – 12:PM CST.
$100 for the four-week class

Suggested supplies to have on hand:
  • Some type of pastel paper about 11" x 14". I absolutely LOVE PastelMat. It comes in dark color choices. You can buy it in single sheets or pads.
  • Soft pastels and hard pastels. I use and recommend Unison hand-rolled soft pastels and Prismacolor (hard) pastels.
  • A surface (table, board, or easel) to work on.
  • Either the image I email you to work from or one of your own.
  • A smooth non-textured rag (I use a soft t-shirt cut up to about 4” x 6”) and/or pastel blending sticks, tortillons.
  •  A good cup of coffee, tea, or hot cocoa to savor as you create.

Unwind, live in the moment, and have fun by painting with pastels. Make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and make art following along with the lesson/photo of the day, work from your own photo, or simply watch and paint later! The camaraderie of this online class offers a unique opportunity to bring your art to a higher level by brainstorming with each other.

“At the deepest level, the creative process and the healing process arise from a single source. When you are an artist, you are a healer; a wordless trust of the same mystery is the foundation of your work and its integrity.”
