Mary Telfer is a multi-media artist who uses language and humor to address issues of corporate structures, animal rights, and feminist agency. She received her M.F.A. in Visual Arts from Vermont College of Fine Arts and her B.F.A. in Visual Arts from Northern Illinois University. She uses media such as photography, video, drawing, painting, collage, digital technology, and books in a practice that is both collaborative and socially engaged. She has taught art for the last two decades, including many years as an instructor at McHenry County College and at Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association (NISRA). In 2013 she won NISRA’s Compassion Award for her work in art education.
Mary has spent a great deal of time curating and jurying exhibitions through the Midwest including Women's Works, Art Fair at the Dole, The Sage Gallery, Wausau Festival of Arts, NISRA, and her studio. She is committed to educating audiences about veganism, art, and healthy living. She has an extensive exhibition history throughout the United States, exhibiting in Illinois, California, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Wisconsin. In 2017 she won the international exhibit Women's Works Artistic Merit award.
